Cleveland County has always been my home. I grew up in the upper part of the county on my family's farm Martin Charolais. I have so many fond memories of growing up here from showing cows at the Cleveland County Fair to family horseback rides to cutting flips in my grandfather's cotton wagon.  I am blessed to have Jeff Wright as my supportive husband for over 20 years.  Jeff works for the City of Shelby and also grew up in Cleveland County.  We have two children together that we adopted through Foster Care. Our son after finishing his duty as a US Marine currently lives in CA working in Security and our daughter works for Atrium Health as a Registered Nurse, with future plans to get her doctorate.

 

Family has played a huge part in making me the person I am today. I am thankful for my parents William “Dub” and Sue Martin who instilled in me what it means to be a Servant Leader, Trustworthy, Committed person with integrity, and it is these characteristics that makes me worthy to hold a seat as County Commissioner, 

After graduation from Burns High, I received my Bachelor’s degree in Mathematics from UNC Charlotte.  This prepared me for my 21-year career in Corporate America where I was an IT Executive for an International Property & Casualty Insurance Company and managed multi-million dollar contracts.  While working in Corporate America I was given the opportunity to complete a Leadership Development Program from the Center of Creative Leadership.  That leadership program helped me become a small business owner in Cleveland County.

What I am most passionate about is serving my community.  God has given me a servant’s heart and because of His grace I have always been able to put others first and do so unconditionally and without hesitation. I am involved with the Junior Charity League of Shelby, Cleveland County Habitat for Humanity and I just finished serving as a Deaconess at Eastside Baptist Church where I also volunteer as a cook and always willing to help out with other mission opportunities.
